Relationships
This studio work explores the nuanced relationships between people through a deliberate and experimental approach to lighting, props, and composition. Initially lacking inspiration in fashion or classical portraiture, I turned to human connections as a theme, inviting family and friends to participate in capturing different forms of relationships—siblings, marriages, and parent-child bonds. Using a rope as a visual prop symbolized connection, while a simple white fabric costume was designed to eliminate distraction and focus on emotional purity. To deepen the understanding of each bond, I employed questionnaires and recorded video interviews, aiming to evoke genuine emotion and comfort. My goal was to manipulate studio lighting creatively, mimicking natural light’s impact to enhance mood and atmosphere. I drew upon my love for nature by incorporating materials like raw sisal rope and cotton fabric, linking back to my interest in psychology and human behavior. Challenging yet rewarding, this project sought to produce images that visually communicate relationships authentically, while also fostering a positive human experience. By capturing different relationship types and durations, I hoped to reveal subtle visual differences, ultimately portraying the profound impact of human connection through a controlled, artistic environment.
